Remote Virtual IP Address

If you perform remote connectivity checks from one FireProof to another and the other device fails, the remote connectivity check will fail, even if the failed device was backed up successfully. In order to rectify this problem, you configure the device with a virtual IP address that is assumed by the backup device once it becomes active. By having the device that performs the remote connectivity check query for the remote virtual IP, the check will be successful when the backup device takes over.

You use the Remote Virtual IP window to configure remote virtual IP addresses. The Remote Virtual IP window contains the following fields:

To set up a remote virtual IP address:
  1. From the FireProof menu, choose Remote Virtual IP.
The Remote Virtual IP window opens.
  2. In the Remote Virtual IP window, adjust the appropriate values.
  3. Click .
    Your changes are made.
  4. Make sure to configure the remote virtual IP on the main device and backup device. Also, make sure that the device performing the remote connectivity checks queries this address.
