Post-Installation and Troubleshooting Notes
After you install Netscape Application Server, consider the following issues. The Netscape Application Server user and the web server user must either be the same or from the same group. If the web server is installed as a regular user and the Netscape Application Server user is installed as the root user, a file permission problem will exist. The web server won't start because it won't have access to the registry file reg.dat. The user must have root access to start Netscape Enterprise Server 3.6. After installing Netscape Application Server on a UNIX platform, make sure that the NAS directories gxlib or javalib and the registry directories under NAS are accessible by the web server owner and user. When running KIVAes.sh, pass in the start and stop arguments to start and stop Netscape Application Server. To run the start script as a background process, append the command with the `&' character ../KIVAes.sh start & Solaris Check for required Solaris patches. To check for required operating system patches, log on as the root in Single User mode. Type the following to start the patch script (note that this utility is for Solaris V2.5.1 only; see the software patch vendor for information about V2.6 patches) cd <NAS installation directory>/bin ./install_patch.sh The Patch script starts. Follow the instructions of the Patch script. Setting Environment Variables Although system environment variables for databases are set during installation, verify that they have not changed. To verify, type env at the prompt. Review the list of environment variables. If a any variable in the system environment is not set according to the guidelines provided here, change it to the proper setting. For Sybase: For Bourne Shell: DSQUERY=<sybase servername>; export DSQUERY For C Shell setenv DSQUERY <sybase servername> Replace sybase servername with the name of the user's Sybase server. For Oracle: For Bourne Shell: ORACLE_SID=<oracle SID> export ORACLE_SID ORACLE_HOME=<oracle install directory>; export ORACLE_HOME For C Shell setenv ORACLE_SID <oracle SID> setenv ORACLE_HOME <oracle install directory> For DB2: For Bourne Shell: DB2INSTANCE=<db2instance>; export DB2INSTANCE For C Shell setenv DB2INSTANCE <db2instance> For INFORMIX: .For Bourne Shell: INFORMIXSERVER=<informixserver>; export INFORMIXSERVER For C Shell setenv INFORMIXSERVER <informixserver> Setting OS Stream Buffer Size You may need to adjust the size of the operating system stream buffer to maintain optimum Netscape Application Server performance. Add the following to the file /etc/system: set strmsgsz=0 Refer to your system documentation for more information.
