Stopping a Server or a Process
Stopping a Netscape Application Server or a server process, such as Java Server or C++ Server, allows requests that have already been queued to finish, but does not allow new requests to enter. This is useful if you are planning to shut down the entire Netscape Application Server or an entire process.

When you are upgrading an application, it might be better to stop a process, wait for the current requests to finish, upgrade the objects, and then start the process back up again. This eliminates the chance of users losing data or encountering an error.

To stop a server or a process

  1. Open the Configuration tool of the Netscape Application Server Administrator.
  2. To stop a Netscape Application Server, from the Enterprise window select the server.
  3. In the Information window, click Stop Server.
  4. The server stops accepting new requests, but finishes the requests already queued.

  5. To stop a process, double click the server and select the process you want to stop.
  6. Stopping the Java Server process stops new Java requests and stopping the C++ Server stops new C++ requests from entering the server. Stopping the Executive Server stops both types of requests from entering the server.

  7. Click Stop Process.
  8. The select process stops accepting new requests.
