Configuring a Distributed Data Synchronization Environment
Once you install multiple Netscape Application Servers, you need to update the registries of each server that is participating in distributed data synchronization. This is done using the kregedit utility. A future release of Netscape Application Server will incorporate this functionality into the Netscape Application Server Administrator.

Updating each Netscape Application Server registry ensures that each server has the same information in regards to the primary server, the immediate backups, and the priority with which other servers might become a primary server in the event of a server failure. For more information about distributed data synchronization, see "About Distributed Data Synchronization."

To configure a distributed data synchronization environment

This procedure applies to every Netscape Application Server that participates in data synchronization.

  1. Open the registry editor by typing kregedit at the command prompt.
  2. The registry editor opens and displays the keys and values that apply to the Netscape Application Server.

For Windows NT, use regedit and start at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\KIVA.

  3. Using the most recently added server as a guide, make sure the values and value data under the following keys are the same for each server participating in distributed data synchronization:
  4. KIVA\\Enterprise\\2.0\\CCS0\\ClusterName

    and

    KIVA\\Enterprise\\2.0\\Clusters\\Default

    and

    KIVA\\Enterprise\\2.0\\Clusters\\Default\\SyncServers

The data synchronization service with each server must point to the same cluster for all servers to communicate together. This is determined by the ClusterName value data of the ClusterName key. The default is the Default cluster. For more information about clusters, see "What is a Cluster?"

Each server must also have the same information for the maximum number of immediate backups assigned for the cluster. This is determined by the MaxBackups value under the Default key.

Also, each server participating in data synchronization must have the priority level of each other server, and each server's priority setting must have the same value registered with each other server. The servers that are participating in distributed data synchronization and their priority levels are listed under the SyncServers key. Each server is listed by its host IP address, Executive Server port number, and priority level.

For more information about managing clusters, see "What is a Cluster?"

  5. When you have ensured that each server has the same synchronization information, close the registry editor.
