Implementing User Authentication
User security verifies access to an application based on a user's user name and password. To implement user security, you must create a user profile, which holds the user name and password, for all users of an application.
Because these names and passwords are stored in the Netscape Application Server GDS registry file, which is not designed for thousands of entries, user security is best reserved for Intranet applications with a small number of known users. For larger user-bases, or for more sophisticated application security, you should implement role security. For more information about user security, see
